Laser Acne Treatments
‘A drug-free approach to managing acne & scarring’
Laser acne treatment is a multi-pronged approach to improving the symptoms of acne by killing bacteria, reducing excess oil and stimulating new collagen production for smooth, blemish free skin.
How does Laser Acne Treatment work?
Laser acne treatments are extremely effective at treating acne like pimples, whiteheads and blackheads and also at reducing acne scarring. Acne is caused when the small pores in the skin are blocked with oil and bacteria creating the small red, painful bumps we know as pimples.
When pimples are squeezed, scratched or popped it damages the layers of the skin which can cause scar tissue to form. In some people, severe acne can cause very bad scarring which will last long into adulthood. This can be a driving factor in poor self esteem.
The Laser Acne Treatments at Laser + Holistic Aesthetics work in three different ways:
- Kills Bacteria: The heat from the laser energy kills off the bad bacteria that infects the blocked pores. By killing off the bacteria, the number of painful, infected pimples will be dramatically reduced.
- Regulates oil production: Sebum is naturally created by the skin as an oil to prevent the skin from drying out. Hormonal imbalances trigger an overproduction of sebum from glands in the skin. The laser technology we use at Laser + Holistic Aesthetics can target the overactive glands to bring the oil levels back to a normal range.
- Regenerates the skin to reduce scarring: The laser energy triggers collagen in the skin to regenerate, this will smooth out the skin and over several treatments dramatically reduce the appearance of acne scarring.
How can a laser treat acne scarring?
Acne scars are normally ‘atrophic’ which means that the scar is sunken into the skin. Medical research has found lasers to be highly effective at treating atrophic scars with findings showing improvements in skin flexibility, blood flow and a reduction of scar tissue after laser treatment.
The laser uses light energy to penetrate into the skin layers through the scar tissue. This triggers the skin to heal and regenerate. Normally it will take several treatments of laser skin resurfacing for the laser acne scarring treatment to be effective.
Will a Laser Acne Treatment be painful?
Laser acne treatments are similar to laser skin resurfacing treatments, which means that they will feel hot on the face but not painful. It is very rare for someone to need any anaesthetic to have treatment done.
After the treatment there is likely to be some redness, swelling, and a feeling of tightness in the face – similar to a mild sunburn. This will subside after a few days.
