What does vaginal atrophy actually mean?
Atrophic Vaginitis is the medical term for ‘vaginal atrophy’, which generally includes symptoms like dryness, itchiness, increased urinary tract infections, burning sensations and pain.
For women suffering from vaginal atrophy – sex is often painful which can put pressure on relationships and cause anxiety.
Vaginal atrophy is caused by dropping estrogen levels in the body – a natural part of ageing that is particularly common during menopause. With lower levels of estrogen the vaginal walls typically thin, dry out and may become inflamed.
The traditional ways to manage vaginal atrophy are topical creams or hormone replacement therapy.
How do Vaginal Atrophy Laser Treatments work?
At Laser + Holistic Aesthetics our team uses a new type of laser technology to use mild, controlled heat on the vaginal walls. A laser probe is gently inserted into the vaginal canal where different laser energies stimulate the tissues. The laser energy triggers a range of cellular reactions which stimulate the production of new collagen, blood vessels and fibroblasts – important cells that create new connective tissue.
Typically the patient will require about three treatments – after which the vaginal walls will have thickened, with increased blood flow, healthier mucosal tissue and ultimately improved confidence in the bedroom.
